"We cannot give with one hand and destroy with another" Took

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 11th Oct 2004

Speaking before his meeting with the East Kent Peace Alliance in Ashford, Lib Dem Parliamentary spokesman Chris Took has rounded on his Conservative and Labour opponents for their non attendance at the meeting.

"This debate was organised for the public to get a clear view of party policy regarding the arms trade, the non appearance of either a Conservative or Labour speaker at this meeting is indicative of their silence on this matter."

Chris, a campaigner for WaterAid, the charity dedicated to providing clean water for the world's poorest nations added "we cannot make promises and give aid with one hand only to destroy and take away by supplying arms with the other."
