The Scots have STV, why not the rest of us?

At a recently well attended AGM the local Tenterden Liberal Democrats endorsed the bill recently passed by the Scottish Parliament introducing the Single Transferable Vote for Scottish local elections.

Members called on this government to do the same in the rest of the UK and therefore revive the local political process.

Barry Wright, President of Tenterden Liberal Democrats explained "the STV system is fairer. A large majority of voters, including a large majority of Tory voters, want more representative councils."

Local campaigner Chris Took, who spoke to members at the AGM added "Tenterden has a very independent mind, different to that of it's Ashford big brother. Too many local voices are quashed by our current electoral system. It is in the interests of all groups to campaign for a fairer electoral system."
