Top Lib Dem Parliamentarian to speak at Ashford Dinner

Lembit

Lembit at the Parliamentary variety show 2004

Lembit Opik has spoken in parliament about the necessity of keeping the DJ Andy Kershaw on national radio, fought against new licensing laws that impose restrictions on where live music is played, released a truly awful Christmas single and played harmonica in pubs in his Montgomeryshire constituency whenever someone has been foolish enough to allow him to.

As well as being qualified to talk about music, he isn't a half bad politician either! Ashford Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that our annual dinner speaker will be the shadow Wales and Northern Ireland secretary Lembit Opik MP.

As a member of shadow cabinet since 1997 Lembit is one of the most experienced and respected front bench Liberal Democrat MPs. In parliament he has asked questions ranging from Asteroid to Al-Qaeda. Outside of parliament he has featured in numerous TV shows and print media.

Members and non-members should not miss this tremendous opportunity to meet and listen to one of the party's true characters.

The Annual Dinner will take place on Thursday October 20th, 7.30pm for 8pm. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Central, Canterbury Road, Kennington. Tickets are £16.50 and are available by post from Jill Norris, 43 Osbourne Road, Willesborough, Ashford TN24 0EF. Jill can also be contacted on 01233 631349.
