The Conservative Council policy of scrapping the household green waste collection has resulted in a big increase in black sack piles.

More people have taken advantage of the hot summer by trimming their lawns, trees and hedges.

With the green waste collection being binned residents were even encouraged by one Conservative councillor to simply send garden waste to landfill, an immensely irresponsible piece of advice.

"The Conservative Council have made it harder for people to recycle whilst their councillors have advised residents, who want to do the right thing, to simply send their waste to landfill" said Ashford Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate Chris Took.

"This policy, pushed through at the end of the winter, was always going to cause problems in the summer. The fact that this council did not see it coming is, quite frankly, staggering."
